If you’ve ever been on the internet, you probably know that by this point, social media runs the world. From personal memories to viral memes, the online world is just begging to be filled with meaningless content. This includes your business – unless you want to live under a rock. When it comes to how often you should post on social media, there are dozens of different factors that can help you get into your own personal groove.
However, there is definitely a wrong way to post, especially in 2024. While all platforms are different, staying active online can be a huge plus for your business. It shows that your company is actively running, in on trends, and personalize with their customers. Now, you’ve probably heard the phrase “quality over quantity”. It’s never been truer when it comes to posting online. While we’re embracing social media and all that it is, we might as well do it correctly. So, here are a few tips on how often you should post on social media.
Social Media For Beginners
Consistency
If we could get on our roof, we’d be up there screaming at the top of our lungs about consistency. None of this rollercoaster ride from social media frenzy one week to complete radio silence the next. It’s not just confusing—it’s downright weird and a one-way ticket to the bottom of the social media algorithm.
Big Internet loves consistency, steady posts, and active engagement. It lets the platforms know that you are using them, and therefore more likely to promote you as a business account. So whatever posting schedule you decide on, make sure to stick to it.
Quality Matters
Yeah, we know you probably have loads of photos from your restaurant, store, or whatever else you do for work, but you don’t always have to post everything. Take the time to really sit down and come up with quality content. It’s no use posting just to post. You want each thing you put online to say something about you and your company. Whether it’s your sense of humor or promotions you’re running, making sure you stay professional rather than just active can say a lot about your business.
How Often You Should Post On Social Media
We know you’ve Googled how often you should be posing online. Some may tell you no more than once a week, while others will tell you to post 3 or 4 times a day. So, what’s the real answer?
In reality, it all comes down to your follower count and content. If you’re a larger account (say, 10,000 followers or more) you almost have the privilege of posting more than once a day. However, having fewer followers and posting 7-10 times a week can actually hurt your account. In fact, smaller pages can receive up to 50% fewer clicks the more they post, especially if it’s excessive.
Sometimes, social platforms such as Facebook and Instagram can see it as spam, burying your account under larger creators that have more interaction. So, how often should you be posting on each platform?
Facebook is far nicer to larger pages, meaning your small business can become one of the victims that gets left out of ‘For You’ pages. However, as your followers grow, you can absolutely post more often.
Our opinion? At minimum, you want to be posting 3 times per week. At max, no more than 1 post per day for accounts with 9,000 likes or below.
Instagram still sticks to its roots as a photography app, even with the growth of social media. This means Instagram thrives through high-quality content. In fact, event major brands only post once or twice a week because of that. However, Instagram also introduces the dreaded Reels. Should every post be a video? Are photos dead?
Our opinion? At minimum, stick to 4-5 posts a week, mixing reels in for about one or two of those posts. Static photos are not dead! However, you should also be taking advantage of Stories, posting them daily if you can.
YouTube
Every YouTuber is different, and it really depends on what your content persists of. If you are posting informational videos, it can be a little different than “day in the life” videos in terms of audience and consistency. This platform is also the most judgemental about quality. In 2024, YouTubers are a legitimate career, and they do not play with their quality.
In our opinion, you should try to post videos once a week however, if it is not your main source of social media, once a month will also show progress.
Pinterest is used for very specific purposes. If you are an HVAC company looking for new customers, it may not be your forte. However, as a clothing brand or decor company, it could be just what you’re looking for! If you’re looking for some good advice on figuring out this platform, why not hear from Pinterest themselves:
“It’s a good idea to save Pins regularly—consistent, daily activity is better than a once-a-week flurry. Be patient and stick with it. Unlike social networks where all of your audience reach typically happens in the first 24 hours, the reach of your content on Pinterest will continue to grow over time as Pinners discover and save your Pins. Publishing consistently over consecutive months is the best way to build a dedicated audience.”
In our opinion, if you’re looking to really utilize Pinterest, start with about 10 pins per day. This platform is a little different, however. We actually recommend reposting the same pins every few months to keep them in a rotation.
TikTok
Now, we know video content can be hard. Why do you think we only recommend one to two videos a week? You want to make sure you have the time to put our quality content (remember that?). However, that luxury is blown out the window if you’re looking to get started on TikTok. Being a platform of exclusively vertical video content under a few minutes long, it can be hard to keep up.
However, this app thrives off quantity compared to your other popular platforms. TimTok recommends you post about 1-4 videos per day – and we agree! Just stick to trends and value-centered content. You’ll be sure to find some true potential customers on there. It’s a hard ask, but you’ll also see the most growth the fastest on the most popular app on the internet.
X (Twitter)
Honestly, we can’t stop calling it Twitter. A fun fact: X is the only social platform that is still in chronological order. This means your home feed is showing you the tweets that happen in real-time. The after half-life of a tweet is about 24 minutes before it’s swept up in the sea of tweets from 5 minutes ago.
So, this may sound like a crazy number, but most celebrities can tweet up to 50 times a day. As a small business, however, there’s no need for that. If you have under quadruple digit followers, you can actually stick to just 1-5 tweets a day depending on your goal.
